• Salary: $46,000 in accordance with Collective Bargaining Wage Schedule

Union County is seeking a diligent and dedicated Waste Compliance Inspector to join our team. This entry-level position plays a crucial role in ensuring that solid waste management within the county adheres to established regulations. The Waste Compliance Inspector will be responsible for designated zones within Union County, inspecting waste containers and vehicles, and documenting compliance using the UCUA computerized portal.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct regular inspections of solid waste containers, garbage trucks, waste facilities, and recycling centers to ensure compliance with regulations.
• Perform Merchant Waste Inspections at solid waste facilities as directed.
• Conduct field surveillance to identify potential violators.
• Investigate and document non-compliance complaints.
• Accurately input inspection data into the UCUA computerized “Tracker System.”
• Prepare detailed reports on accidents, injuries, or incidents encountered during field inspections.
• Assist in prosecuting solid waste violations by gathering and verifying evidence and providing testimony in court as required.
• Perform additional tasks as required by the Authority.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Valid clean NJ Driver’s License.
• Ability to perform basic and moderate data entry tasks using an iPad and desktop computer.
• Physical fitness suitable for daily driving, sitting, and frequent physical activity.
• Familiarity with Union County geographic area a plus. 
• Must be able to pass background check.
